Quinta do Monte Travesso has belonged to the Naples de Carvalho family for five generations, since the founder of Casa do Douro, the great-great-grandfather of the present owners, gave this beautiful quinta to his daughter as a wedding gift. From the very beginning, the plantation of some of the current vineyards and the wine making process began in the same warehouses where Monte Travesso wines are still vinified today. Lately, unique grape varieties have been planted per plot and new technologies have been introduced, namely the possibility of controlling the fermentation temperature in the centenary lagares.

He's a young Durian with strong ties to the region. His maternal grandfather, Bernardo Albuquerque, vinified about 600 pipes of Port Wine at Touça, in the Douro Superior. His paternal grandparents were the owners of Quinta do Monte Travesso. In 1999, Bernardo Nápoles took over the production of this quinta.

The call for vines and wine came early and soon again headed for the boarding school of Santo Tirso, where he obtained the diploma of Agricultural Technician. Later he graduated in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. He solidified his knowledge with specialized training in France and with a Masters in Viticulture and Oenology at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia.

Despite his origins, his attraction to the sea led him to become national champion and vice-champion in sailing. Today it is in the vineyard and wine that he is concentrating all his efforts. It is with great commitment and dedication that he seeks, now with his wines, identical joys!
